What I’m Reading
What’s On My Nightstand Right Now?
I’m currently reading Missing Pieces by Jeni Grossman. It’s a mystery set in Turkey and I find it fascinating. The author lived in Turkey for a year and she expertly weaves in the traditions and scenery of this country with an intriguing mystery that has kept me up at night trying to see what happens next. So far, I’ve really enjoyed this one.
Up next . . . Altered State by Gregg Luke
What I’ve Recently Read
I finished The Hourglass Door by Lisa Mangum and really enjoyed the story. I was expecting it to be a lot like Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight, but it was different, fast-paced, and quite thought provoking. I think this is a book that any young woman would enjoy.
I also read Stephanie Black’s, Methods of Madness, and honestly, it’s a spine-tingling thriller. There were a few parts I read in the daytime because you just get so caught up in the suspense, any little noise makes you jump. If you do read it at night, be sure to “borrow” your child’s night light. It’s so creepy and good, I highly recommend mystery lovers read this one.
The Historian, by Elizabeth Kostova was a mammoth book, over 600 pages, and while it is creepy and I learned a lot about Eastern Europe, (Vlad the Impaler was a very bad man) I didn’t really care for it. The first part I just trudged through, but by page 200 it started to get interesting. Just when I thought it was going to get really good we went back to a lot of flashbacks and it was drudgery again. I thought it was too long, and the ending wasn’t satisfying at all after all that buildup! But it was very creepy and the middle part was good.
